Losing weight is not just about exercising and healthy eating.
That’s the easy part!
If it were that simple everyone would have the body that they wanted.
The key to losing weight is in your mindset and in your attitude.
Throughout this article I have written some techniques to get your
mindset right and for you to get into the mental state that YOU CAN lose
the weight, with confidence!
So, why isn’t losing weight easy to do?
Ask anyone why they haven’t kept to their diet or exercise regime and
you will invariably get answers such as:
* I have got no will power
* I don’t have the time to go to the gym
* I give up too easily
* I enjoy eating too much
* I don’t like exercise
On closer inspection of the excuses above, and that’s what they are by
the way, you can see that it is not the event that is to blame, it is in
fact your mindset that is to blame why you are not losing the weight
that you want
What is will power?
It is the decision to do one thing over another and to stick at it. It
is the drive and determination to do a certain task and to be focussed
to achieve it.
You see, many people do not have will power as they associate more
pleasure and less than pain in not sticking to it that they do to
sticking to the plan - simple as that.
Note that if you do one thing instead of another it is because of this
in no matter what you do life.
You are gaining more pleasure out of doing task A than you would if you
did task B.
Or you would be avoiding pain if you do task A over task B.
And isn’t true that if you wanted to lose the weight bad enough you
WOULD find the time no matter what?
You would have no problem in substituting an hours worth of sleep to get
up that little bit earlier to work out and to prepare your healthy lunch
for the day.
Or do you link more pleasure in staying in bed for that extra hour
instead of getting up?
The secret to confident weight loss
In order for you to stick to your plan and to lose the weight you so
desperately want to shed, you first need to remind yourself of WHY you
want to do it in the first place!
So, task one is to remind yourself of the reasons why you want to lose
the weight.
Write them out on a piece of paper:
Ok, now look over your list again.
Do the reasons get you juiced up or have you written them as “Nice to
haves”?
Have you written something like:
* I will have more confidence
* I will look better and more attractive
* I will fit into my clothes
If so, looking at those reasons I don’t blame you for not wanting to
get out of bed!
They would get me juiced up!
You’ve got to get into the position where reading your list get’s
you motivated and juiced to achieving it.
“I will fit into my clothes” isn’t going to cut it!
Ok, let’s have another crack at it.
This time, I’d like you to write down two lists.
One list of the pleasurable experiences that you are going to have when
you’ve lost the weight and another list of the pain that you will
avoid.
Don’t write down “I’ll have more confidence” instead write down
the real reason:
“I will look hot and when I walk down the street everyone is going to
look at me and say WOW SHE IS HOT and looks confident. People are going
to want to look like me”
Do you see what I mean about using POWERFUL statements?
“I’ll have more confidence” is too general. Drill down to some
specifics.
PLEASURE
E.G
“I will look hot and when I walk down the street everyone is going to
look at me and say WOW SHE IS HOT and looks confident. People are going
to want to look like me”
AVOID PAIN
E.G
“I am sick and tired of when I sit down my clothes cut into me and
make a horrible mark around my stomach”
So hopefully you have now got two powerful lists of all the reasons why
you want to lose the weight.
If you don’t get a little emotional when you read your lists then your
reasons are not strong enough.
Swear if you have to! Anything to get those emotions going!
ASSIGNMENT 1
I want you to look at these lists first thing in the morning and read
them out aloud to yourself.
GET JUICED UP FOR THE DAY!
I also want you to do this at lunchtime, obviously find somewhere quiet!
And also complete this last thing before you go to bed.
Getting your mindset right will set you up for success and coupled with
a healthy eating and exercise regime – YOU WILL BE ROCKIN’ ‘N
ROLLIN’!
ASSIGNMENT 2
There is another thing that I would like you to do each day.
Find a quiet spot, preferably lying down.
Put some soothing and gentle music on and close your eyes.
Now, I’d like you to picture what you will look like once you have
lost the weight.
Imagine it in your mind.
Imagine yourself walking down the street, what do you look like? What
are you wearing?
Imagine yourself talking to others in a confident manner now that
you’ve lost the weight.
Imagine all of those lovely glances from the opposite sex or from people
who like what they see!
Just imagine and act as though you have already lost the weight.
Do this for the duration of 2 songs each day.
If you want to go on longer than that’s great.
You can get really carried away when you start. I’ve known people who
have gone through a whole 45 minute side and it only felt like 5
minutes!
Do this, day in day out - make it a habit.
ASSIGNMENT 3
After your visualisation exercise I’d like you to jot down 5 successes
from your day of how you are one step closer to getting what you want.
Even if it’s a case of:
* Went to the gym and worked hard
* Eat healthily
* Walked instead of catching the bus
* Completed my pleasure and pain exercise
* Completed my visualisation exercise
Good luck!
