| Article: Does Soy Really Work? - by Julia Elliott | ||
|
You have to be living in cave not to have heard the commotion about soy. The media claims that it is the healthiest food to have come along in a long while. Manufacturers are sprinking soy in and on their present products and all of asudden they have "soyfood!" But according to the FDA regulations, soyfoods have to contain a certain amount of soy to meet the requirements. But, not all soyfoods are able to meet the requirements. It is a good idea to search out each soyfood you choose to determine the values. In your search try to find a nuetral party, not a manufacturer-backed source that is hard at work to get you to buy their products. Also try to find out how the product was processed because excessive heat can damage and sometimes remove the beneficial compounds that are found in the soybean. As far as supplements, they are limited in their effect because experts claim that in order to obtain the nutritional benefit from foods, it is best to address the food itself and not the processed form. And as with any food or supplement that you use for the enhancement of your health, it is wise to let your doctor know about your intent so thats/he can moniter and chart any changes that take place. And remember, food or supplements are just part of this picture. A well balanced diet of fruit vegetable and grains, exercise, genetics, and healthy lifestyle all play a part in the attempt to recieve optimum health. |
