| Article: TLC and the Health Care Provider - by Steve Cassidy,RN,LMT | ||
|
In nursing school my first nursing class was instructed by a hard nosed nursing professor. At the beginning of that nursing class there were 800 students. At the end of the semester there were only 400 students left! By graduation there were only 100 students to take the state boards. To my surprise this gray-haired instructor was really not the hard-nosed person everyone said. She said "The most important quality you can bring to your patient is a SMILE and the most important medication is to HOLD THEIR HAND". This year was 1979. Reseach has shown that TENDER LOVING CARE (TLC) given by the nurse or health care provider is transmitted thru to the patient resulting in the patient becoming healthier. Further, research has shown that what the nurse actually feels about the patient does have an effect on that patient. The nurse can be a real "air head" and be very disorganized, yet have a geniuine real loving concern about the patient, wanting the patient to get better. THE RESULT: The nurses attitude gets transmitted thru the nuses hands even though the nurse never says anything. The patient gets BETTER! A negative feeling may result in the patient not making any progress on that day or if the patient were to be prone to get worse, this would be the day! What you put out into the universe, you get back. The caretakers expectations have an influence on how well that "person"(patient) does. ATTITUDE COUNTS: "Life Is an Attitude, If You don't like your Life then: CHANGE YOUR ATTITUE!". TODAY'S THOUGHT: "Do Something Nice For Somebody Else". PS: Guess what? The research showed that people you did good things.. The bad people: the wbc count of those that did bad deeds and were nasty, their wbc count went UP!; particularly the wbc's that DECREASED the immunity system!. |
